Skinnier Does Not Automatically Equate to Happier

I was the most unhappy I’ve ever been when I was at my lowest weight. Now, I’m 3 sizes bigger, have no idea what I weigh, and am the happiest I’ve ever been :))

Plz plz plz try to remind yourself as much as possible that skinnier ≠ happier. Yes, maybe being a smaller size may allow you to feel more comfortable in certain clothing or in photos, but if that’s at the risk of damaging your relationship with food and constantly checking your measurements and weight, I am 110% sure you won’t be truly happy. Because happiness isn’t dependent on external conditions, like fitting a certain beauty standard, it’s about mentality, and learning to accept and appreciate yourself as you are right now and realizing everything you have to be grateful for in life <3

And I know it can be hard to believe this, but the right people WILL love you for you (not just your appearance!). They will love you for your smile, your laugh, the way you make them feel safe and seen and appreciated, for your silliness and sense of humor, your quirks and hobbies and passions, and simply for you being you ❤️ Just because you have stomach rolls, touching thighs, lose skin, cellulite or stretch marks doesn’t make you unlovable or any less beautiful. Those are all just part of having a normal human body!👏🏼 (even if social media and diet culture say otherwise‼️)

And if you’re still looking for words of encouragement, this is what I tell myself when I’m having real bad body image days: we are all going to be old and immobile before we know it, and when I’m 90 years old, I know I would feel so ashamed of myself if I let diet culture control the bigger part of my life. If I let it take away from my happiness and dictate what clothes I wore, what & how much I ate, what opportunities I accepted, and how much I valued myself. We are all literally going to be dead eventually, so it truly does not matter what you look like or what your clothing size is. Just do your thing, have fun, and don’t take anything in life too seriously (especially diet culture 🙃)

Much love,
Emma 🤍
